ABOUT THE PROJECT

Nicomekl Elementary’s two-storey, 16-module, 11,520 sq ft modular addition provides a contemporary 200-seat learning environment that responds directly to Langley City’s rapid population growth. Designed by Thinkspace Architects, the wood-frame modular structure delivers 8 bright, flexible classrooms, a quiet room, resource spaces, washrooms, offices, foyer, and support areas, all arranged for efficiency and student flow. ROC Modular, in partnership with Turner Construction, Make Projects, and Tasu Construction, delivered modular units with a high-degree of completion, incorporating millwork, washrooms, and mechanical systems directly at the plant. Structural steel beams at mate-line openings allowed for open, column-free classrooms, while integration of an elevator enhanced accessibility. Energy-efficient systems and resource-efficient materials advance long-term sustainability goals. The approach demonstrates how modular methods, close coordination, and technical adaptability can deliver high-performance educational facilities quickly and responsibly, setting a benchmark for future school projects across BC.
